I really like the style you're coming from, its a nice take on what you want your portrait to look like and how you see your self as. So far I think your piece looks great, I would recommend creating a new brush in Illustrator to help you define the hair a bit more and using some cel shading for some contrast to your highlight, especially in the blouse.
This turning out great, I like the whole cartoon like style you got going on. I think that once you finish some of the finer details it will look even better. Good work, keep it up.

this is great! You look like kind of a Bratz doll. i think you could add more detail in the hair since your photograph has a lot detail.
